Bears 101 is an Illustrated Guide to Bear Safety. It is designed to deliver a broad foundation of bear safety knowledge to individuals working at industrial sites, beginner and intermediate outdoors-persons, and a valuable resource for experienced back-country-goers.
Remote Safety Services Bears 101 – Preventing and Managing Encounters with Black Bears and Grizzlies is a four part course.
1: Introductions, Course Outline, Assignments, Bear Information
2: Field Signs, Bear Identification, Bear Behaviour & Encounter Behaviours
3: Encounter Preventions, Deterrents and Control Measures, Applied Encounter Measures
4: Regulations & Legislation, Working in Bear Country, Recreation in Bear Country, Overview of Wilderness Survival Concepts.
Bears 101 approach to management of bear encounters in a simple, three-part process.
1. Identify the bear: Species, Age, Gender and Mother w/ cubs, Field signs
2. Understand the behaviour: Sudden startle, Mother w/ cubs, Food-seeking and Predatory
3. Manage the encounter: Stand ground, Slow withdrawal, Play dead and Fight
The course runs from 9am until 5pm. Location is the Ford Northstar Dealership training room. Payment methods: online via PayPal, email money transfer, cash or credit card.
Successful completion of the course includes certification for eight hours of safety instruction in bear encounter prevention and management in accordance with industrial and recreation requirements
